Kenya has a considerable hydropower potential estimated in the range of 3,000-6,000 MW. As of June 2020, hydropower contributed 32% (835 MW) of the total installed generation capacity in Kenya part of which 106 Mw is generated by the Turkwel hydroelectric power plant on the border of Turkana and West Pokot counties[1]. Turkwel and Kerio are the only two permanent rivers serving Turkana county as show in Figure . Due to its relatively flat terrain and seasonal rivers, Turkana County has limited potential for hydropower generation. Although no detailed studies have been done, it appears that very few areas (e.g. Kapedo falls) could hold the potential for small hydroelectric power generation based on the general topology and hydrology of the county.
